Four is a sparse, poetic look at the lives of four characters on Independence Day 1996. A 16-year-old boy named June, middle-aged Joe, his teenage daughter Abigayle and a low-level drug-dealer named Dexter pair off in an attempt to discover themselves through each other. Rules are broken and defenses dropped as these two mismatched couples seek to make a connection with anyone they can. Four provocatively explores the loss of sexual innocence across the ever-shifting boundaries of race, class and age.

"In Four, desperation hides inside chatter, bluster and shows of authority...Nothing is emotionally simple. The play keeps delivering small shocks and aches that end in a standoff, or maybe in the pause between despair, resignation, and a twinge of hope. Haunting."
-- Margo Jefferson, New York Times
