"James Baldwin wrote Giovanni's Room in 1955. Initially, the book wasn't
published in the United States because it's about 'two men and their erotic
affair.' To me, the novel was not about sex. After eight readings, it was still
not about sex. This adaptation follows suit with that idea. What this play is
about is telling the truth - not simply to others, but to oneself."
