Sumiaya Nafeesah
Teaching Artist - Galaei
Sumiaya Nafeesah (she/they) is a lifelong lover of art and a theater practitioner of over 10 years. Sumiaya studied Theater at Temple University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 2023. They have appeared in several short films and theater productions in the Greater Philadelphia Area. A shift in passions brought Sumiaya not only to begin directing, but to also begin teaching the arts in summer camps such as Shine Arts Alliance and Yes! And… Collaborative Arts. Sumiaya helped pioneer the drama club at Mastery Lenfest Charter School, in collaboration with First World InterActions. She helped students create and stage six original 10-minute plays. Through these experiences Sumiaya has found a love for teaching the arts and nurturing the creative passions of the next generation. Aside from theater Sumiaya loves to write poetry, crochet, model, painting.
