Playwright

Ang(ela)/Rayne Bey (they/them) is a Black, Non-Binary multidisciplinary artist from Southwest Philadelphia. They create to inspire decolonization, joy, play, and healing - believing it is our duty to build utopia. Ang/Rayne was in the inaugural cohorts of The Strides Collective Emerging Playwrights Residency and Jouska PlayWorks, respectively. They are a recipient of HATCH, Rockland Woods Residency, and finalist for Shattered Globe’s Global Playwright Series. Recent credits include: The Medusa Play - the first play by a Black student performed on the mainstage of their alma mater leading to a professional Barrymore Recommended production at Shoe Box Theatre Collective, Every Everyman and Germantown Plays Pericles  - developed and commissioned by Shakespeare in Clark Park, A Soft Landing - commissioned by Elevate Theatre Company and produced at their Frontline Healthcare Workers Theatre Festival, WHISPER -  premiered at Director’s Gathering DG Jam 2020 and produced by Upstream Performance Collaborative. Other commissions include: A Soft Landing (Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival), Dandelion (Revolution Shakespeare), and Journey to Wholefoodsland  (Lupine Performance Cooperative). Ang/Rayne is currently commissioned by Christ Church Neighborhood House for their “On Buried Ground” project. With praise from the Token Theatre Friends podcast, their play MASC, formerly Twenty-Six, is currently in-development. Their play COMET will premiere this fall with Upstream Performance Collaborative. Ang/Rayne is elated to continue cultivating their voice with this talented cohort of Rising Writers. angbey.com
